Both Kartra and Clickfunnels look like they offer the same solutions. They don’t.
It makes sense to first decide what you need from a platform before you read a comparison of the many features the two services offer.
Otherwise, it is easy to get sidetracked by their “potential” without looking at your reality. Behind all the shiny features, you’re looking for a core of solid function.
Every new platform demands your most expensive resource – your time. A free fortnight is not free if it takes 40 hours to find out how to do what you want.
A $1 trial for a fortnight becomes a much better value if you get your first membership site live in two days.
Over the past six years, I have subscribed to Clickfunnels four times. I’ve used their startup plan and their full-house plan. My goal was to house my email marketing and courses and sequences in the same engine.
I thought I’d get it right at ClickFunnels. Each time I have given up because their interface is so darn difficult for me.
I looked for a simpler solution after a new designer told me the same thing.
I found that at Kartra. I noticed a few of my online heroes using Kartra, and I looked at the emails they sent me, as well as the pages they displayed.
They seemed as good as ClickFunnels.
From the inside, creating those pages myself, it was a world of difference. To produce pages, membership sites, and emails was much easier.
For instance, ClickFunnels offers three membership sites (for publishing courses). I’ve used Teachable.com for six years and Thinkific.com for two years. Both platforms are great for courses, but light on marketing.
When I converted a short course from Teachable.com to Clickfunnels, it took four weeks of full-time work. I found the Clickfunnels interface documentation confusing. Videos needed hosting on Vimeo or Wistia or YouTube.
I converted a similar course from Teachable.com to Kartra. I tried this within a week of signing up for their $1 trial. The entire 15 module course took an afternoon to install at Kartra, as well as the sales pages.
The Clickfunnels interface is changing to version 2.0. Their prices are increasing. They’ve long been the gold standard for sales funnels. The funnels on display from their major players are excellent in every way. But I never got close.
The team at Kartra is not as exuberant as Russell Brunson. This might make them seem less competent. Not so.
A sales funnel is different from a shopping cart. I invested a few days into trying to get a ClickFunnels shopping cart to allow multiple sales of an item. Then the CF team told me this was not part of their product. They told me I could purchase a third-party component to make it possible.
